Ich kroch ins Zelt und erwischte etwas klassische Musik: ein Klarinettenkonzert Mozarts. Ich mag weder Mozart noch die Klarinette, doch die Kombination dieser belanglosen Salonmusik mit der verwunschenen Atmosphäre am Berg schien ungeheuer lustig und heiterte mich auf.

I crawled into my tent and caught some classical music on the radio: a clarinet concerto by Mozart. I don't like Mozart or the clarinet, but the combination of that nugatory salon music with the enchanted atmosphere on the mountain struck me as most amusing and cheered me up no end.

Mittlerweile machte ich mir Sorgen wegen Astbruch. Der Wind steigerte sich seit einer ganzen Weile, oben knarrte und krächzte es. Das Knirschen des Bohrturmes nahm ich nur noch zwischendurch wahr. Es regnete jetzt auch, oder der Wind schüttelte die Feuchtigkeit aus den Bäumen. Anstelle von Schlaf kamen mir haiku-Ideen:

In the meantime, however, I was feeling a bit worried about the possibility of branches breaking off in that wind. It had been on the increase for quite a while, and up in the trees there was creaking and cracking. The grinding from the derrick was only perceptible at odd moments. It was raining now too, or the wind was shaking the wetness out of the trees. Instead of falling asleep I got some more haiku ideas:

Nasses Astwerk knarrt.
Ängstlich darunter kauert
Der Radler im Zelt.
|

Wet branches creak.
Fearful in his tent, the cyclist
Cowers beneath them. |

Plötzlich war es 04:50 und ich hörte ein Auto. Die ersten Wanderer des Tages!

Suddenly it was ten to five and I heard a car. The first walkers of the day! |
