Ab und zu rollten wir ein paar Mal recht heftig. Wir fuhren den Kontinentalsockel entlang, seichtes Wasser an Steuerbord und tiefes an Backbord. Der Kapitän begrüßte mich mit „Na! Das ist bestimmt nicht das Wetter, das Sie sich wünschten, oder?“

Now and again there were a few heavy rolls. We were running along the Continental Shelf with shallow water to starboard and deep to port. The captain greeted me with "Well! This certainly isn't the weather you wanted, is it?"

Unmittelbar bevor Molly zum Tee kam gab es drei ganz heftige Roller um die 20°. Alles flog vom Tisch, und die Tür des Kleiderschrankes, in dem ich gerade hantierte, riß ich glatt aus den Scharnieren, als ich versuchte, mein Gleichgewicht zu halten.

Just before Molly came to tea there were three really heavy rolls of about 20°. Everything flew off the table, and in an attempt to retain my balance while looking for something in the wardrobe, I ripped the latter's door clean out of its hinges.

Molly, der einen dünnen Schnurrbart trug, erschien pünktlich. Er stank nach Eukalyptus. Werner bediente uns mit Tee. Er räumte das Durcheinander bei mir auf und sicherte mir zu, daß „das mit der Tür“ halb so wild sei. Es sei nicht das erste und bestimmt nicht das letzte Mal.

Molly, who had a thin moustache, appeared right on time. He stank of eucalyptus. Werner served us some tea. He cleared up the mess in my cabin, and assured me that 'the business with the door' was no big deal. He said it wasn't the first time, and it surely wouldn't be the last. |
